Spam-style local Search Engine Optimisation website Experiment
In “Who NOT to Trust” category we will share our personal opinion on who we would not trust if we were clients looking for an SEO Service.
These are some of the points that arouse our suspicions when we see them:
- SEO Companies that use Google ads to promote SEO services
- Awards Winning Search Engine Optimisation Agencies
- Google Partner SEO Agencies
- Search Engine Optimisation Digital Marketing Companies that claim to be the BEST
- Websites with missing important contact information: address or telephone
- Spam-style websites: phoney URLs, one long page websites, pushing you to catch the amazing pop-up deals, etc.
- Websites with positive reviews from unknown third party providers (not Google, Facebook, TripAdvisor, etc.)
- Websites with “John Doe” and “Jane Doe” reviews
We already made a short announcement on social media that we have created a new spam-style local SEO website (SEO Galway – seogalway.com) and shared that its creation is a part of an SEO experiment.
We want to see what might be the result of minimal SEO effort spiced up with some Google advertising.
I feel obliged to clarify that using Google Ads to promote Search Engine Optimisation services is firmly against our beliefs and will never be used for SEO Smoothie.
On the other hand, if money is more important than how you get it, go for it, you don’t need to use SEO to promote the SEO Services you provide … There is definitely a type of buyer persona who fits this profile.
The first step of the plan was to find an attractive domain name. We were very lucky: seogalway.com
The second step was to quickly build a website, where we reused much of the SEO Smoothie content…
Third thing we did, was applying for Google My Business. I’m curious to see how it will go…
And finally, start planning the SEO Advertisement.

First Vague Observations

- The campaigns are obviously 24/7
- Prices in euros, dollars and pounds
- Some spelling mistakes
- Some poor descriptions
- Results not directly related to the keywords: companies offering web design or PPC
- Around 50% of the ads do not have Extensions
- Around 50% of the ads do not have the searched keywords in the description
